“Hop Tropical has a clean, stripped-down malt bill that lets us highlight some really unique hops,” says Isaiah Mangold, our Head Innovation Brewer. The New Zealand hop varieties Riwaka and Motueka certainly deliver tropical flavors, Isaiah says, “but on top of it, they have a very distinct terroir to them” — that intangible, exotic something that’s special to New Zealand.
Riwaka helps drive fruity layers of mango, papaya and passion fruit, “and then Motueka is like the top note coming through with a nice citrus, like fresh-squeezed lime in your Mai Tai,” says Isaiah. Hop Tropical is crisp and clean, with just the right bitterness for lush hops to shine like paradise. “Yeah, it’s the type of beer that I want to drink all the time,” says Isaiah.
